Indira Gandhi birth anniversary: Sonia Gandhi targets PM Modi

She congratulated to all and young congress for the anniversary of Indira Gandhi and also appreciated the slogan ‘Maa tujhe salam’ for Indira Gandhi She said Indira Gandhi was the mother of the country and she is today also. She is remembered as ‘Maa’. She also congratulate for having completed 126th birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. She mentioned he was the architect of the modern India. She concluded that out party is also celebrating 125th birth anniversary of the great social reformer and the main architect of our constitution that is Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi pay tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 98th birth anniversary

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday offered floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 98th birth anniversary. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh also offered floral tributes to India's first woman Prime Minister at her memorial in Shakti Sthal. A series of functions have been organized today to highlight contribution of Indira Gandhi in nation building.

Secularism was an article of faith for Nehru: Sonia Gandhi at International Conference on Pt Nehru

“Secularism is a compelling necessity for a country as diverse as India” said Congress president Sonia Gandhi while addressing an international conference organised on the occasion to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru at Delhi’s Vigyan bhawan on Monday. In 1947, India was a new born state, in turmoil after partition. Pandit Nehru brought stability and hope. His ultimate objective was not merely India's freedom but human freedom. Pandit Nehru put the country on the path of modernization, industrialization and social reform. Nehru was a man of letters who interpreted India to the World and the World to India. It is up to our young generation to ensure that the solid foundations that Nehru had built are strengthened further” said Sonia Gandhi. “Secularism was an article of faith for Nehru” she added.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi while speaking at the concluding session of the International Conference organised by the Congress party to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, said that Nehru never believed in violence. “I wish we could see some of Nehru's India... Nehru's ideas and politics are relevant even today. There are attempts to destroy Nehru's legacy today. Nehru is an ancient idea but still part of living India; It is important to preserve Nehru's India where all live in peace, a secular India. Nehru was a man of idea was never an ideologue; he never imposed his ideas on anyone. Nehru had thanked British for imprisoning him as he could a learn a lot from jail life and to be free from anger. Nehru tried to merge with India and India in turn merged with Nehru. Nehru believed strongly that everyone has the right to have their own views. What really hurts me today, is how we can condemn people because their ideas are not of our own. India became a democracy with all freedom due to Pt Nehru. India built a democratic movement with no bloodshed, no violence under the leader ship of great persons like Nehru. Nehru never believed in violence. Democracy is not a ritual that takes place in every 5 years. It is the process of involving & empowering the weakest. More than a man Nehru had a dynamic way of thinking ; so let us not diminish Nehru; let us learn from him. Let us learn from Nehru's examples, his ideas of freedom; never suppress any idea” he said.

Jawaharlal Nehru at Delhi’s Talkatora stadium on Thursday, launched a severe attack against the forces in the country who are attempting to wipe out the legacy of Pt. Nehru. “Today attempts are being made to get rid of Nehru's ideology, legacy and vision. Those who are indulging to destroy Nehru Ji’s ideals are not just attacking a person, but they are attacking a strong ideology, vision and great selfless efforts, services and contributions for our country.
