Sonia Gandhi launches Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana

Nagpur: Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi underlined that Congress-led UPA Government is committed for the welfare of common man. She was addressing a function after launching Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana (RGJAY) - a health insurance scheme for poor families in Maharashtra.Sonia Gandhi said that the Congress-led UPA government was committed to provide better healthcare facilities to aam aadmi, particularly the poor, rural women and children. The Congress-led Government in Maharashtra was doing a yeoman service for people, who will greatly benefit from the health plan, said the Congress President. Sonia Gandhi praised the state government for extending the project, which was launched on a pilot basis last year in eight districts, to the remaining 27 districts.

Sonia Gandhi attends Dussehra celebrations at Subhash Maidan in New Delhi

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi alongwith President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and witnessed the burning of the effigy of Ravana, symbol of evil, at the Dussehera celebrations Wednesday at Subhash Maidan near the historic Red Fort in Delhi. Sitting on an embellished dais, the leaders watched the spectacle of fireworks and the burning of effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhkaran - son and brother, respectively, of Ravana - before the effigy of the demon-king was set alight.

Sonia Gandhi lays foundation stone for refinery-cum-petrochemical project in Barmar

Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation for a Rs 37,229 crore refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, a joint project of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government, at Pachpadra in Barmer district in Rajasthan. "This project is the result of the positive vision for development of the Centre as well as the Rajasthan Government. This project will attract new refinery and petro chemical and engineering industries in the state and will open new development arenas not only in this region but across Rajasthan" said the Congress President.

MNREGA, RTI are some of the example. The most important one implemented by the UPA-II is the historic Food Security Bill which ensures that no one in our country sleeps in hunger. Sonia Gandhi at National Media Centre welcomes the watchdog role of the media

New Delhi: Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday inaugurated the National Media Centre alongwith the Prime Minister. While addressing the gathering Sonia Gandhi, who is also the Congress President, said that media need not be the enemy of the government and also said that the government welcome all criticism. In her address Sonia Gandhi asserted "Media and the government often disagree. The editorial columns and the voices of the prime time news provide ample evidence for this. But I venture to say that this can be healthy and there need not be any antagonism between the two".
