Congress President Sonia Gandhi attended the 105th birthday celebrations of the highly respected seer Shivakumara Swami at 'Siddaganga Mutt' at Tumkur in Bangalore, which is considered to be one of India's oldest religious institutions. Education is, no doubt, about academic learning. It is, no doubt, about acquiring qualifications to ultimately find security and fulfillment in life. But surely there has to be something deeper, something more basic to education if it is to serve as an effective instrument of nation building. And that something is values - moral values” said Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi in Bangalore: Ensure that right to education is asserted and imposed properly

Congress President Sonia Gandhi attended the 105th birthday celebrations of the highly respected Lingayat seer Shivakumara Swami at 'Siddaganga Mutt' at Tumkur in Bangalore and paid respects to the seer and said that it is for the people to ensure that the right to education is asserted and imposed so that poor children of the age group 6 to 14 get free education.
“And now, the primary education has been made a fundamental right. It is for all of us to ensure that this right is asserted and imposed so that all of India’s children from 6 to 14 receive free education” said Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi continued “But education must also develop, what Nehru used to often speak about, is scientific temper. What is scientific temper? It is a spirit of ceaseless questioning, of relentless enquiries. Indeed we had ancient centres of learning, individual thinkers and philosophers in our country whose works led path breaking discoveries”.
Sonia Gandhi also recalled that we have great cultural, spiritual and intellectual traditions based on the wisdom, learning and experience gained over the millennia. “So, true education combines respects for these traditions with a progressive, contemporary outlook that meets challenges of our times” asserted Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli: Congress has a long history of development and service

It was a morale boosting experience for the Congress workers and supporters in Raebareli when they saw both Congress President Sonia Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi together attending a Congress rally at Raebareli, the parliament constituency of Sonia Gandhi.
The UPA chairperson said that Congress has always been committed to work for the entire section of the people. “We will continue this principle, come whatever may. But here in Uttar Pradesh it is a matter of regret that all ideals and principles are at risk where a phase of petty interest, corruption and politics of opportunism has been launched in the name of caste and religion,” Sonia Gandhi added.
Recalling the earlier political alliances in UP, Sonia Gandhi said, “All the non-Congress parties - BJP, SP or the BSP - have joined hands for power time and again and have together ruined the state. None of these parties are concerned for the development”. ”No one is bothered about the pain and difficulties of the poor. There can be no hope of development in the entire state including Rae Bareli from these parties,” said the Congress President.
“What we require for the happiness of the people and the development of the state is hard work, devotion, commitment and determination,” Sonia Gandhi asserted.
“The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has set an example for this. Only the Congress can provide such good governance. It has a long history of development and service. Congress is the party of all classes, caste, creed and community. It is the hope of the people. It has been fighting, since the beginning, to protect the interests of every citizen in the country. Now we are fighting to bring back the happiness and development in Uttar Pradesh and for that we need your support and cooperation,” said Sonia Gandhi.
“Do not be misled by the campaign of other political parties and support Congress candidates in Raebareli and in the entire Uttar Pradesh by ensuring every single vote for the Congress,” reminded Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi: I am here in UP to work with the people to develop the state

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for Congress in UP had said that casteism and goonda raj have been increased and development took a back seat under the successive non-Congress governments in the state in the past two decades.
