Rahul Gandhi undertakes padyatra in Andhra Pradesh to highlight farmers’ issues

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi undertook a ‘padyatra’ in Andhra Pradesh to highlight the issues faced by farmers and women Self-Help Groups. He kicked off his yatra from the village where Indira Gandhi had addressed a meeting in 1979. During the course of his yatra, he also held interactions in various villages of the district with farmers, MNREGA workers and with women SHGs. The Congress leader also met the family of farmer Harinath Reddy, who allegedly committed suicide.

In the movie, and in real life.” He said. “The farmers in our country, the people and the Congress party will make the 56inch chest to 5.6 inch, if they try to grab the lands of the poor” warned the Congress leader.

Rahul Gandhi on Padayatra in Rajasthan, says Congress won't let BJP grab land

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who began his two-day visit to Rajasthan on Thursday, said his party will not let the Bharatiya Janata Party grab the land of the people. Addressing a padayatra, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress, like a wall, would prevent the BJP from taking away the rights of the poor. “I have come here just to tell you one thing, Congress will fight for you people not only in Rajasthan but the entire nation,” assured the Congress leader on the first of his two-day visit to the western state. “We will not let anyone take your land without your consent,” Rahul Gandhi added.

Rahul Gandhi meets street vendors in Delhi, promises to resolve their woes

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited Raghubir Nagar in New Delhi to meet the street vendors who have been complaining of lack of facilities in their area, on Monday. "The vendors called me saying that they don't have enough facilities. The poor workers here have not been given any space in the city. So, I am here." Rahul Gandhi said. The Congress vice president said that they street vendors were being oppressed and he would attempt to solve their problems.

Sonia Gandhi leads massive opposition march to President's House against Modi govt’s Land Bill

Congress president Sonia Gandhi led over 100 leaders from eleven opposition parties as they marched in a massive show of strength against the controversial Land Acquisition Bill to President's House in New Delhi on Tuesday. The march started from the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside Parliament and is expected to end with a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee against the amendments proposed by the Narendra Modi government to a similar bill passed by the UPA in 2013. Other leaders who walked with Sonia included former prime minister Manmohan Singh, CPM's Sitaram Yechury, CPI's D Raja, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien and Dinesh Trivedi, Samajwadi Party's Ramgopal Yadav, DMK's Kanimozhi, INLD's Dushyant Chautala and the RJD's Prem Chand Gupta.

Sonia Gandhi: Modi govt not committed to development of Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday while initiating a debate in the Parliament accused Narendra Modi government of failing to fulfil commitments made to the people of Andhra Pradesh when Telangana was carved out of it, a charge rejected by the government. Sonia Gandhi said she wondered why the sense of urgency was not being shown by the government in fulfilling key commitments made to the people there "who have been waiting patiently for over nine months" and feel they have been "taken for granted". She further said the 14th Finance Commission has not done "full justice" to the needs of the state and accused the government of "sadly" not doing anything "substantial" for funding the new capital for the state.

At Kisan rally, Rahul Gandhi slams anti-farmer Modi govt

Calling Narendra Modi-led NDA government as "anti-farmer" and "pro industrialist", Congress on Sunday declared full scale war against it over Land Acquisition Bill with Rahul Gandhi accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of bringing ordinance on it to pay back 'loan' of industrialists. "I tell you how Modi ji won the election. He took loans of thousands of crores from big industrialists from which his marketing was done. How will he pay back that loan now? He will do it by giving your land to those top industrialists. He wants to weaken the farmers, then snach their land and give it to his industrialist friends," he said addressing a farmers' rally here.
