Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi highlighted that senior officers of Mayawati government are accusing her of manipulations and corruption. District Udyan Adhikari (DUA), Sultanpur, Chandra Bhushan Pandey has written a letter to the Governor BL Joshi accusing UP Horticulture Minister of Mayawati government of corruption. Pandey, a provincial civil services (PCS) officer has alleged that Rs 200 crore scam in purchases and supplies to farmers has taken place in his department in last few years and that a commission of 30-50% is charged to provide subsidy to farmers. Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the minister is harassing him and others who raised voice against him and corruption. Poor People’s cash stolen by Mayawati government: Rahul Gandhi

Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has charged UP CM Mayawati of stealing the money given by the Centre for the poor.   He said that the CBI would expose the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam which has recently been ordered by Allahabad High Court. Rahul Gandhi said Congress (I) government had sent money for the poor. It was not for Mayawati or Babu Singh Kushwaha former family welfare minister. An inquiry is on and people will soon know who pocketed and how much. The Congress leader while on five day public contact tour in UP cautioned the people that they had been pushed to the corner and deprived of their basic rights. Rahul Gandhi reminded the people that the only way to bring Uttar Pradesh again on fast track of development was to vote in the Congress (I) and vote out corrupt Mayawati government.

Rahul Gandhi in Maharajganj (UP)

http://pressbrief.in/
On the fourth day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Mayawati Government for the misuse of the fertilizers and urea sent by the Centre. “We sent fertilizers to Uttar Pradesh for the farmers but they are being black-marketed in Nepal. As a result the farmers in the state do not get the required fertilizers and urea sent by the Union Government,” he said.
He was addressing a well attended rally at Maharajganj near the UP-Nepal border on the last day of his UP tour as part of the Congress campaign for the upcoming assembly polls. Referring the farmers’ issues Congress General Secretary claimed that the Congress Governments realizes not just the strength of the farmers but also the difficulties faced by them. “Congress Governments in states like Delhi, Haryana or Andhra Pradesh have been making policies aiming for the welfare of the farmers. They acquire the lands of farmers by paying adequate compensation. But in Uttar Pradesh, BSP Government grabbed the poor farmers’ land in the Ganga and Yamuna Expressways forcibly. Did not pay proper compensation and sold it to the builders. When the farmers agitated, they were labeled as Naxals,” he argued.
“In Tappal and Bhatta-Parsaul farmers were assaulted by the BSP Government. Police fired at the agitating farmers when they were merely resisting the wrong and forceful land acquisition. When the farmers asked for the adequate compensation for their own land the government authorities called them Naxals. Mayawati Government gave no justice but only bullets to the farmers,” said Rahul Gandhi.

You have proved wrong all the apprehensions and have shown that the energy of our youth will definitely take forward the Congress Party.
Our party is the oldest party of this country. In pre independence era the Congress party encouraged the new generation in every part of the country to come forward and provided opportunity to them.
Rajivji believed that our youth will take the country in the forefront of the first row of nations. His decision to provide voting rights at the age of 18 years gave lakhs of youngsters to participate in the democratic process.
Today, Indian youth have registered their presence in the country and abroad in every field. Talented youth should be brought in politics and that's the need of the hour. Your election, your training and your involvement will help in nation building. The process of training which has started is commendable. The very first time you have brought in accountability of the assignment as one's identity. This will help to strengthen the party from the grass root till the top. You all are the foundation of the party and country's hope.
The process of change which has started has given you the elected representatives a very big responsibility. You have to ascertain that the faith which has been shown in you shouldn't go waste. You are responsible towards them who have elected you. And that's why you have to be regularly in touch with them. You have to involve them in your programmes. You have to assign them work and use your imagination in a way that today's voter becomes a sincere worker in the future.

Bapu challenged, questioned and refined every idea he ever had

Congress General Secretary while addressing the elected representatives of Youth Congress said, “ Bapu challenged, questioned and refined every idea he ever had. He developed leadership in people around him by encouraging them.
A leader in the Indian tradition is not someone who leads people , she is someone who knows how to lead herself.
Gandhiji believed that all human beings have right to political expression. He never sought to control or own the Congress party. Gandhiji not only changed the organization, he changed the people within it.
Today we don't have a Gandhiji. That's why we are using the system of elections and democratization which will enable the Youth Congress to open itself for the youth of this country."
Senior Leaders of the Congress Party, Elected Office Bearers of the Indian Youth Congress, Distinguished Guests and Friends:
Gandhiji is no longer a man. He has become an idea. He is an expression of all that is good in humanity. He is one in a long line of people who truly represent the soul of India.
Gandhiji did not seek to lead people. He only ever led himself. His method was to create a mutiny within himself and relentlessly challenge everything that he stood for. He

challenged, questioned and refined every idea he ever had. He developed leadership in people around him by encouraging them to do the same.
A leader in the Indian tradition is not someone who leads people. She is someone who knows how to lead herself.
Gandhiji believed all human beings have the right to political expression. His conflict with the British occurred because he felt they did not allow Indians the right to political expression. He understood that the Congress was a powerful institution that could give India

a political voice. He cracked its hinges open and used it to provide a political identity to millions of Indians. He never sought to control or own the Congress Party. He strove instead to give it to its true owners, the people of India. Gandhiji did not only change the organization. He changed the people within it.
Gandhiji broke the doors of our organisation open with the force of his personality. Today we don't have a Gandhiji. That is why we are using a system of elections and democratization that will enable the Youth Congress to open itself to the youth of our nation. This system of periodic elections will

ensure that the youth of India will have the opportunity to elect their own leaders every two years.
The elections have empowered a new generation of Youth Congress leaders. As you begin this journey I would like to offer you some ideas that might help you as you progress in the world of politics.
We come into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing. The only thing you will ever have as a political leader is the trust of your people. Gandhiji maintained this trust till

the day he died. In fact he maintains it today as I speak. Try not to lose this trust.
Today, many political leaders lead by telling people what they want to hear. People who tell others what they want to hear are not called leaders. They are called followers. Learn to lead.
Test your ideas. Challenge your thoughts. Create mutinies within yourselves and others around you. Develop a relationship with your people. Learn to listen to people. Listen to and respect your opponents because they guide you. But most importantly, learn to

recognise and fight for the truth. Finally, understand that leadership in our tradition is not about taking but about giving. It is not about leading people but about leading yourselves.
I wish you all the best for a great journey.
I would like to end by inviting the youth of
India to take the reins of the Youth Congress and guide the destiny of our Nation.

The shining metro in Delhi was made by the labours from UP. The roads and buildings in Mumbai were built by them. Who are reaping the benefits of your labour, the respective states. But no jobs are available here in U.P. How can they get jobs without having proper roads, sufficient electricity and water? If your state and you are not developing, you will have to go to other places like Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi and you have been doing so. We need better development and infrastructure. We need roads, electricity and sufficient water.

Lamenting over the poor infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh Rahul Gandhi said that the roads in Uttar Pradesh last only 3 months. “The roads are languishing in dilapidated state and are littered with gutters and potholes. The scheme meant for the benefit of the poor women is also being misused in Uttar Pradesh. Every poor woman is entitled to get Rs 1,400 under this scheme to meet the expenses for the delivery. But in Uttar Pradesh the money meant for the poor women do not reach them. Instead they are forced to bribe the hospital authorities to avail the benefit. This clearly indicates that the money that should have actually reached the poor is not reaching them.”

Mayawati involved in NRI land allotment scam: Congress (I)

Taking advantage of high demand for land by NRIs, IT industry and housing groups in NOIDA, Mayawati government has made the most of this opportunity for indulging in scams, has said Congress (I).  A powerful lobby of Mayawati’s BSP control allotment of lands in NOIDA.  While official rate of land is Rs 1100 per SqM, Rs 8000 per SqM is charged in cash as extra. Market rate of the same land is from Rs 15,000 to Rs 1,00,000 per SqM.  People are openly saying that the extra charge is Mayawati’s share. In this illegal process while ministers, legislators and officials are making money, government is loosing valuable revenue in crores of rupees.  The worst sufferer in this scam is poor farmer who looses his land, his livelihood and has nowhere to turn to. Congress (I) has pointed that NRIs and IT industry can easily find alternate land but poor farmers does not have any financial status to do this.

Appreciating the efforts of the Congress-led UPA Government at the centre Rahul Gandhi said “Our Government came to you, listened to you to realize your problems. You told us that you are not able to fetch a job in your villages, but the rich people do get it. We therefore designed the biggest employment generation scheme MGNREGA for the benefit of the poor. Through the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs 120, thus Rs 12,000 per year is guaranteed. All the states welcomed this policy and implemented it at their places. You go to Andhra Pradesh or any other places, you can experience that. In all these states the funds meant for the scheme reach to the people. You can find the details from the internet. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubt most will say it is MGNREGA. All other states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Rajasthan, Haryana or Delhi all are benefitted by this scheme”. Taking a dig at Mayawati he continued “But your Chief Minister says that MGNREGA is not beneficial. Mayawati has said that publically also during a rally in 2007 at Lucknow. She will say that the scheme is of no use for you because she doesn’t come to you and realize your pain. If she goes to the poor they will tell her about the benefit of the scheme. But she stays in Lucknow and travels by Helicopter.”

Rahul Gandhi: Whenever there is a change, initially people make fun of it but finally they acceept

http://pressbrief.in/
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today inaugurated the Youth Congress Convention in Rohini, Delhi. While addressing a massive rally of newly-elected office-bearers of the Youth Congress Rahul Gandhi urged the youth of the country to work together and cleanse the political system in the country.
“Corruption is most rampant in the political parties in our country. So this political system is to be cleansed and changed. Only the youth of the country can do so. So be ready, work together, change the system” said the Congress General Secretary in-charge of the Youth Congress and NSUI. The two day convention called “Buniyaad’ is the first of its kind in the history of the Youth Congress and is being attended by 8,000-odd elected members from across the country.
"All other parties follow the process of nomination. But the Youth Congress reflects voices that are democratically elected. Not Rahuljee or any other senior leaders selected you, you are here on the basis of your own merit, strength and capacity. Wherever I travel, I see how you are helping change the attitude" said Rahul Gandhi amidst great applauds. “India's youth must help usher in change", he added.
The Congress General Secretary appreciated the efforts to strengthen democracy in the Youth Congress. “During my initial interactions with the friends of Youth Congress, they complained that their voices go unheard in the organization”. “So we started the process of democratization in the Youth Congress (YC). We started it from Punjab and have now implemented in most of other states. Whenever there is a change initially people make fun of it, then they watch and finally they change themselves”, he claimed.
Boosting the confidence of the Youth Congress workers Rahul Gandhi added “If you have faith and confidence in yourself, nobody can stop you from reaching the top. If you continue to work hard for YC and the Congress you can reach miles ahead.”
Rahul Gandhi also appraised the YC members regarding the democratic elections in the outfit. “We ensured that the elections in the Youth Congress are free and fair. We adopted a method similar to the method adopted by the Election Commission of India. Even opposition parties admit that election in the YC is free and fair.”
Reiterating the need of involvement of the youth in politics the Congress General Secretary added “Previously the doors of the politics were closed for the youth. Members came to politics through nominations and recommendations and not on merit. Such leaders were not able to perform satisfactorily and they lacked contact with the masses.” and asked the emerging leaders to work for the cause of common man. “You are not like that. So go to the people, take out people’s issues, talk to them and mingle with them. Poverty is a serious matter of concern. India cannot be shinning till the day there is no poor person in the country. So fight for the poor, fight for aam aadmi”, he urged.
Rahul Gandhi also underlined the role of senior leaders and said “The youth cannot work alone. Do not think that you are the bonded labourers of the party. Seniors are there to guide you and work with you. We need to blend experience with the youth”.
Pouring more positive energy into the young members Rahul Gandhi added “I want to tell the youth that our system is open for all. Our election is free and fair. So please join Youth Congress and fight for the progress of the country”.
Exuding confidence among the cadres he went on saying “We have full faith in you. So get ready to fight against corruption. Go to villages and try to know their issues. change the system by fighting for the poor”.
Taking a dig at other parties he commented “In other parties, senior leaders command and junior leaders obey. But in the Congress all members come to the party on their ability and strength. Not one of you has come from the sky through a parachute. You know what I mean by that”.
“So, all of you have come on your own strength. Now let us work together and change the country” concluded Rahul Gandhi.
The convention will also be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi during the valedictory session on Tuesday.

Rahul Gandhi ridicules BJP’s slogan

www.pressbrief.in

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that for development the involvement of the poor people also should be ensured. Rahul Gandhi also ridiculed the slogan India is Shining by BJP. Congress is for the upliftment of poor and common people of the Country he said. This is the difference between Congress and BJP added Rahul Gandhi.

People of Uttar Pradesh have lost confidence in Mayawati: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has said people of Uttar Pradesh have lost confidence in Mayawati government for its misdeeds and mismanagement. Mayawati had given many promises before Assembly elections in 2007. People believed that she will deliver what she was promising, said Congress (I). But later it turned out that it was only a trick to get votes of the people. Once in power Mayawati did not fulfill even one of her promise, said Congress (I). All along Mayawati has been functioning arbitrarily and shown insensitivity towards people. She did not care for handloom and Silk weavers in Poorvanchal. Drought hit Bundelkhand was altogether ignored by Mayawati. In western UP instead of helping the poor farmers Mayawati conspired with big bigness men to grab lands of farmers in the name of acquiring land. For all this misdeeds the people of Uttar Pradesh have lost confidence in Mayawati, said Congress (I).

Uttar Pradesh will be number one state within ten years: Congress (I)

Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has blamed Mayawati government for the present plight of Uttar Pradesh. While neighboring states like Haryana and Delhi are fast developing, Uttar Pradesh is moving back wards. There is urgent need to put the state back on the fast track development and prosperity. There is no shortage of funds with Congress (I)-led UPA government at the Centre, said Rahul Gandhi. But the problem is that funds sent from Central government do not reach the needy poor people. Corrupt officials and politicians pocket those funds. As a result plight of the poor and needy remain as it was before. Rahul Gandhi has assured the people that Congress (I) would make Uttar Pradesh number one state within ten years, if it is voted to power in State Assembly elections due early next year.

India moving ahead, UP going backwards, says Rahul Gandhi

In a punching speech to the gathering at the Phulpur rally, sounding the poll campaign for the upcoming Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi spoke on “Nehru’s Phulpur”, the poor of the state and what a leader should do.

“This Phulpur is Nehruji’s workplace. . . And Mr. Nehru showed Uttar Pradesh the path – showed the path of development, the path of Progress. There was a time when Uttar Pradesh showed the path to the whole of India. Today India is fast moving ahead, Uttar Pradesh is going backwards. On one hand Mr. Nehru was the MP of this place, while on the other, today, mafia and criminals are elected the MPs from here,” said the Amethi MP.

The Phulpur constituency was once an Indian National Congress bastion from where Rahul’s great grandfather and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru used to fight elections from.

The era of the Grand Old Party in the region subsequently died after the expiring of Mr. Nehru. Since then, it has remained an “old fortress” for the Congress which wants to claim it back this time around.

Rahul Gandhi in Dumariyaganj, Uttar Pradesh, Part-1

http://pressbrief.in/

On the fourth day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took a dig at BJP by questioning the ‘India Shining’ slogan during the 2004 Parliament elections. Addressing a huge gathering at Dumariyaganj in Uttar Pradesh as a part of his campaign in the state for the upcoming assembly elections he said that the BJP failed to note the problems of the people and claimed that India was shining.
“They brought the ‘India Shining’ slogan because their leaders do not go to people, do not mingle with them and do not share their meals. As a result they could not understand the poor state of affairs in the villages and thought that India was shining. Some senior leaders without trying to ascertain the actual situation; sitting inside TV studios and declared that India is shining. But that is not the truth. What is shining then? It was their houses, their vehicles that were shining but the poor people continued to struggle,” he added.
He categorically stated that that India cannot be shinning till the day there is no poor person in the country. He underlined that the Congress is committed to work for the poor, dalits, adivasis and underprivileged by stating the Congress slogan – a government of aam aadmi, a government for development.

National Education Day: Sonia Gandhi meets children

No sooner had Sonia Gandhi, the Congress chief, missed her first comeback political rally on Wednesday in Chamoli, Uttarakhand because of high fever that there were speculations about Mrs. Gandhi’s health.

The Congress president had gone under surgery in the United States. Since then, political corners are abuzz with rumors about Mrs. Gandhi’s health and her involvement in active politics.

But, Sonia Gandhi’s innings is yet not over. On the occasion of National Education Day, Mrs. Gandhi interacted with school children from different states across the country and spent over 15 minutes with the children.

However, reports coming in, state that Rahul Gandhi could soon be appointed as Congress party’s working president because of Mrs. Gandhi’s inconsistent health. Apart from this, his involvement and importance in the party affairs has increased substantially.

Political analysts say the significance of meeting with the children was to dilute the rumors about how seriously ill Sonia Gandhi is. How she takes herself in Indian politics from here onwards is a political aficionado’s delight.

"I have full faith in the people of youth. The moment you make changes in your thought process, your state will progress. I come to you, eat with you, stay with you. I feel angry when I see that the funds meant for the poor people go to the pockets of bureaucrats and ministers. Now give Congress a chance, and support us. On the third day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BSP and SP maintaining that both the parties forgot the people and work selectively. Addressing a huge Congress workers' gathering at Balrampur AICC General Secretary said that the present BSP Government has lost touch with the people and has been plundering the Central funds meant for the poor.
Referring the UPA Government policies Congress General Secretary said that the UPA Government at the centre or the Congress run governments in various states are working sincerely for the common man, poor, dalit, adivasis and the underprivileged.
Highlighting the significance of the MGNREGA scheme, Rahul Gandhi said, "through the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs 120, thus Rs 12,000 per year is guaranteed. This is not just a scheme but a law. Even if the government wants to stop giving the amount it cannot do so. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubt most will say it is MGNREGA. You can search internet. You can yourself see the entire details of the scheme and the list of all the beneficiaries and the transactions there."
Once again questioning the stand of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on MGNREGA, Rahul Gandhi commented, "when all other states are admitting that MGNREGA is the most useful policy, UP chief minister says that the scheme is of no use. In October 2007 Mayawati during a public rally had said that the MGNREGA is not beneficial for the state. But I request her to go to the people and ask them about the scheme. Everyone will tell her the benefits."
Regarding the misuse of central funds by the BSP Government the Congress General Secretary alleged that the central government has sanctioned thousands of crores for Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, it did not reach the people . The amount is going into the pockets of ministers, BSP leaders and bureaucrats.

Rahul Gandhi also expressed his concern over the pathetic conditions in the hospitals in the state. "I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted," he said.

Referring to the wrongful land acquisition and the atrocities inflicted in many villages in UP Congress General Secretary took on the BSP Government. "Farmers are the biggest strength of the country. But what is happening with the farmers in UP. In Tappal and Bhatta-Parsaul a lot of farmers and women were assaulted at the behest of BSP Government. Police fired at the agitating farmers while they were merely resisting the wrong and forceful land acquisition by the UP Government. No BSP people or SP people went there. But the Congress went there, listened to them and understood their problems. Not only that, the Congress led Government at the centre drafted a new Land Acquisition Bill. But some parties have been opposing it. Who is the loser? It is the common man, poor farmers and villagers are the losers. Congress is committed to work for the poor. We will keep on fighting for your rights," said Rahul Gandhi.

On the second day of his UP tour Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took on the Mayawati- led BSP Government in the state. Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Nanpara, Rahul Gandhi argued that the UP Government has been looting the Central welfare funds meant for the poor.
Adding further he said, “last time we had sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore under MGNREGA to the UP Government and yesterday we again sanctioned Rs 12,000 crore. But the sad part is that this amount does not reach the common man in the state. When I asked the people of UP they said that the MGNREGA policy is good but the benefits do not reach them. This is quite sad as this money does not belong to the central government or the state Government or the ministers it is your money. Still you are denied of it.”

Rahul Gandhi at Nanpara, U.P challenges Mayawati’s stand on MGNREGA

On the second day of his UP tour Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took on the Mayawati- led BSP Government in the state. Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Nanpara, Rahul Gandhi argued that the UP Government has been looting the Central welfare funds meant for the poor.
Questioning Mayawati’s ambiguous stand vis-à-vis MGNREGA Rahul Gandhi wondered, “UP Chief Minister has been saying that MGNREGA is not a useful scheme for the state. But yesterday, she claimed that she never said that MGNREGA is of no use. However, in October 2007 Mayawati during a rally in Lucknow had said that state of Uttar Pradesh will not be benefitted from the scheme. You can check the newspaper records for that. In my opinion Mayawati is wrong. Every poor person in this country will benefit from this employment guarantee scheme. ”

Rahul Gandhi: “In 52 days, new land acquisition Bill was presented in Parliament”

In his spectacular addressing to the grand gathering at Phulpur rally starting off the campaign trail for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, Rahul Gandhi has depicted the plight of the farmer in India’s most populous state.

“Farmers were dying, they were being shot at. And, what was your government doing, it was just watching. No body went to Bhatta-Parsaul, not even to ask what was happening there. When I went there an officer there told me Naxalites had broken in the region that’s why they fired bullets on them,” said the AICC general secretary.

The Youth Congress leader added, “What we did? Congress party went there. We fought. In 52 days we proposed a new land acquisition Bill in the Parliament. The Bill was placed by the standing committee. Opposing groups are trying to stop it. But, they cannot stop it in the open. They can’t say it openly that they are against it.”

Amethi MP Rahul who is the face of the Congress for the upcoming UP Assembly election, has stricken the right cords by highlighting the plight of the poor peasants and seems all set to ride the ‘Elephant’.

Underlining the significance of the MGNREGA scheme Rahul Gandhi said, “By the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs120. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubts most will say it is MGNREGA. It is not just a claim. The records are available on the internet anybody can check the fact about the benefits of the policy.”

Rahul Gandhi at Gaind Ghar Ground ,Bahraich (U.P) Part-2

Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Gaind Ghar Ground, Bahraich on the second day of his UP tour AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the Mayawati Government. He said that the BSP Government has been misusing all the welfare schemes brought in by the Central Government meant for the poor.
Speaking to the Congress workers assembled in large numbers Rahul Gandhi said, “my family has a good relationship with Behrauch. It was from here Rajiv Gandhi made the historic announcement to reduce the age limit to vote from 21 to 18.” He also said that he learnt the habit of going to the villages and meeting the people from his grand mother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Referring the UPA Government policies Congress General Secretary added, “While campaigning for the Parliament elections in 2004 Congress has promised to form a government that would work for the common man. We had promised a government that works for the poor, dalits and adivasis. With the implementation of schemes like MGNREGA, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Right to Education all aiming the benefit of the poor we have indeed delivered.” Underlining the significance of the MGNREGA scheme, Rahul Gandhi said, “by the MGNREGA policy poor persons are assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs120. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubts most will say it is MGNREGA.”

Expressing concerns over the misuse of MGNREGA funds by the BSP Government Rahul Gandhi commented, “we do sanction funds under this scheme to the UP Government as well. Whatever amount the Uttar Pradesh Government demanded from the Centre we sanctioned it. Whether it is Rs 10 or Rs 10 lakh we sent it. But actually what is happening? Your Chief Minister says that MGNREGA is of no use. When all other states are admitting that MGNREGA is the most useful policy and many poor people make the job cards and enjoy the benefit of the scheme, BSP Government says that the scheme is of no use. I remember in October 2007 too Chief Minister Mayawati during a rally had repeated that the MGNREGA is not beneficial. In fact the funds sent by the Centre pocketed by the ministers."

Corruption cannot be checked by pointing finger at others: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has lashed out at Mayawati government for ever increasing and all time high corruption in the state of Uttar Pradesh. People have been baffled why corruption is not coming down while Mayawati has been claiming that her government is taking serious action against corruption cases. Congress (I) has pointed out that Mayawati has only been talking about corruption but has not done anything to actually control it much less root it out. If court pronounces judgment against her minister or UP Lokayukta indicts a BSP legislator, then Mayawati has no option but to remove or drop that tainted person. But that is not enough by any standard. Nothing has been done further to ensure that such corrupt cases do not happen again. Thus corruption cannot be checked simply by pointing finger at others. What is required is sincere efforts to control corruption cases which Mayawati has never undertaken, said Congress (I).
