Blasting Mayawati for selling state sugar mills to favorite private parties for a paltry sum, Congress (I) has said market value of these mills was many hundred times more. There was no reason to put the mills on sale which were doing well, said Congress (I). Amroha Sugar Mill whose total capacity was 3000 ton per day was sold just for Rs 17.1 crore to Waves Ltd. This mill is spread in 74 acres within the city and could have fetched Rs 250 crores. Chandpur Sugar Mill in Bijnor district was spread over 84 acres but was sold for just Rs 26.95 crores. Similarly Bachreich Sugar Mill on Jarval Road spread over 94 acres was old just for Rs 26.95 crores. This mill had been recently modernized at the cost of Rs 20 crores. Mayawati’s sugar industry scams caused loss of thousands of crores to Uttar Pradesh, said Congress (I).
