Uttarakhand: Congress to address the issue of corruption

The Congress is all set to focus on the important issue of corruption during its campaign in Uttarakhand. It also has released a list of campaigners including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Congress has already come out with a charge sheet against the BJP. “BJP is a party with double face. During elections, it shows the face of a political party but gets converted into a business unit once in power. There have been six major scams during the BJP tenure,” said Birendra Singh, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttarakhand affairs.

The high-pitched campaign had kicked off from Roorkee, where Sonia Gandhi addressed a huge rally. Senior Congress leader and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also had joined the Congress campaign.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also addressed rallies in the state.

Congress lashes out at Mayawati over NRI land allotment scam

Flaying Mayajwati for taking advantage of high demand for land by NRIs, IT industry and housing groups in NOIDA, Congress (I) has said that she has used this opportunity to indulge in land scams. A powerful lobby of Mayawati’s relatives and BSP leaders control allotment of lands in NOIDA said a Congress release. While official rate of land is Rs 1100 per SqM, Rs 8000 per SqM is charged in cash as extra it added. Market rate of the same land is from Rs 15,000 to Rs 1,00,000 per SqM alleged Congress. People are openly saying that the extra charge is Maya wasuli (Maya share) said the release. In these underhand dealings while ministers, legislators and officials are making money, government is loosing valuable revenue in thousands of crores of rupees. Congress (I) highlighted that the worst sufferers on account of these scams are poor farmers who looses their land, their livelihood and becomes from land owners to landless vagabond.

Congress (I): UP industry suffered under Mayawati regime

Hitting against Mayawati for demoralizing the industrialists big and small alike, Congress (I) has said her rule brought about all round failure of industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh.   Rather than giving incentives to industries for encouraging them to register high growth rate her forcible extortion of money and hafta wasuli has compelled the marginal industrialists to closed down their establishments,  said Congress (I).   Those who are able to pull out are shifting their industries to other states.  This has led to a chain reaction.  While production has come down, unemployment has risen directly affecting the people, Congress (I) further said adding that this has brought down state revenue collection also. Kanpur which was once known as Manchester of the East has now become junk yard of closed industries. Congress (I) highlighted that even where the central government has sanctioned projects, Mayawati is not making available land for setting up new industries.

Congress flays Maya for swindling JSY funds

Lashing out against UP chief minister for not caring about the welfare of the poor women, Congress (I) has said her government swindled money of Janani Sauraksha Yojana (JSY) program. This being one of the welfare programs under NRHM encourages pregnant poor women belonging to BPL category for institutional delivery to reduce child mortality and safe delivery, said Congress (I). As an incentive each women is given Rs 1400 and those assisting in this work are too given monetary incentive. But the money did not reach the targeted poor women. Instead it was swindled by ministers and corrupt officials, said Congress (I).  Poor women for whom the money was meant were deprived of their rights. For instance number of cases has been detected where for the same woman time and again the amount has been claimed for having delivered a child every few months. Congress (I) said this demonstrates the non-concern of Mayawati for the poor women.
