Mayawati having compounded the miseries of the people of Uttar Pradesh by running the most corrupt and crime infested government during the last five years, it now seems that aam admi cutting across caste and community line feels voting for Mayawati’s BSP was a mistake. While speaking at a public meeting in Bareilly on December 17, 2011 Rahul Gandhi said people of the state are showing dislike for the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and disappointment with the Samajwadi Party. People are accusing Mayawati government of working only for “unke log (their people)” a reference to Jatavs — not the entire Dalit community — who have gained during her rule. Even Muslims are saying what have they got from SP who huddled with Kalyan Singh for the sake of power? People now feel that Congress (I) credentials of being pro-people and development oriented are unmatched by any other party in the state.
