Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the non-Congress governments in UP, during the past 22 years, have pulled the state backwards. On the third day of the second phase of Congress’ Campaign in the run up to the upcoming assembly polls in the state Rahul Gandhi promised that a Congress government will lead Uttar Pradesh back to the top position again.
He questioned the incumbent Mayawati regime in the state and said “Chief Minister of UP says that MGNREGA is of no use. “While all other states are acknowledging that MGNREGA is the most useful policy UP Chief Minister says that the scheme is of no use”, said Rahul Gandhi and continued “The funds send to the state are being eaten up by Mayawati’s elephant in Lucknow. Normally elephants eat and grass but Mayawati’s magic elephant eats money”.
“This money is yours and that money is being eaten up by the elephant” commented Rahul Gandhi. He further went on to say “there is no shortage for funds. We send funds to you but it do not reach you. You are not getting the benefits of MGNREGA. The job cards go to the pockets of pradhan and the money goes to the pockets of ministers. The funds of JSY go to the minister’s pockets”. Referring the NRHM scam he added “But what your minister is doing? He is roaming around in Delhi knocking at the doors of CBI as he looted your money.”
