Lashing out against Mayawati for running most corrupt government, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said she swindled even poor women’s money. Janani Surksha Yojana (JSY) a program under NRHM provides financial incentive of Rs 1,400 to pregnant women of BPL category for having an institutional delivery. This is done to reduce child mortality and safe delivery in pregnancy cases. But due to rampant corrupt in Mayawati government there were glaring cases where these funds were looted by Mayawati government instead given to intended beneficiary women. For instance, Neelam (26), resident of Tarwa Mahant village of Shravasti, has been shown in records as having delivered babies on three days in a row i.e. October 27, 28 and 29, 2010. On spot verification, only one Neelam, wife of Rajendra was found to have delivered a baby on October 27, 2010. This shows the extent of corruption in Mayawati’s government and her concern for welfare of the poor women. He urged the people to bring an end to this sordid situation. Requesting the people to give this time a chance to his party to form government, Rahul Gandhi promised that Congress (I) would ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes reach the poor men and women.
