Hitting out against Mayawati for going back on her promise during 2007 Assembly elections that she would provide corruption-free government, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has accused her of encouraging rampant corruption during last five years. All non-congress governments have encouraged corruption in one form or the other during the last two decades, he said while campaigning for UP Assembly elections 2012. But Mayawati’s BSP government has turned out to be worst, said Rahul Gandhi further adding that she turned the government into a trading company where deals were fixed by middlemen with her ministers on behalf of thekedars and corporate houses. “The government contracts are being sold for a negotiated price. While corrupt ministers, legislators and middlemen are making money, the poor are being compelled to pay bribe for getting anything done”, he said.
Rahul Gandhi asked the people, “You gave twenty two years to the parties like BJP, BSP and SP but what got in return was corruption and non-development.” “Now give is us five years and we will change the face of the state. You will see in five years what we can do,” he said. He promised that Congress (I) would provide corruption-free, transparent and responsive government to the people.
