Congress President Sonia Gandhi launched her campaign for Congress for the second phase of assembly polls in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh. While speaking at an election rally in the historic city of Allahabad Sonia Gandhi said that Congress is committed to serve the poor and the underprivileged. The UPA Chairperson said that for the past 22 years no development took place in Uttar Pradesh and the state is lagging behind.
Referring the Congress manifesto Sonia Gandhi said, “we have detailed all our plans and programmes in our election manifesto. We have to build a strong and healthy Uttar Pradesh. We have to develop the state. We need to boost agriculture, generate jobs for the youth, open more institutions for education and health facilities and thus we will have to ensure the overall progress in the state” she said and assured “Only Congress can do it.”
Explaining the commitment of her party Sonia Gandhi continued “Congress has fought for the country and the society. It has fought for the poor and weaker section of the people and for the development of farmers and workers. We have worked for empowering the women and upliftment of the downtrodden. The Congress has been fighting to make the dreams of the youth a reality. And many of our great leaders have sacrificed their lives for the Nation.”
Exuding confidence among the people Sonia Gandhi concluded “We will never step back. We just need your affection and support. I am confident that you will repose faith in Congress, keeping it mind the seriousness of the state of affairs in the state and elect Congress candidates with thumping majority. I promise that Congress will never betray your trust.”
