Hitting out against Mayawati for running most corrupt government in the state, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said rampant corruption has eroded the impact of welfare schemes in her government. The poor and needy people are not getting the benefits of social welfare schemes while bogus persons in connivance with BSP ministers are making money, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections. For instance, UP Social Welfare Department issued a list of the beneficiaries in 2010 in which one Antita’s age was shown as 62 years to enable her to draw old age pension while actually she is only 35. There are numerous such cases. In Lucknow alone for issue of BPL cards a scam of Rs 50 crore has surfaced while there is another scam of Rs 17 in Social Welfare Department. Bribe has become the prime mover in her government to get anything done. For recognition of a college Rs 15 lakhs are demanded. If it is for B.Ed course then it is Rs 20 lakhs. Congress (I) has said social welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh are benefiting only Mayawati, her party leaders but not the poor and needy people.
