Attacking Mayawati for indulging in corrupt practices by not passing central government fertilizer and seeds subsidy to the farmers, Congress (I) general secretary Rahul Gandhi has accused her of a huge scam by facilitating undue monetary benefits to fertilizer units in the state. Congress (I)-led UPA government at the center sends liberal subsidy for the farmers but her government pockets the same leaving the farmers in huff, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning in the poll bound state. The center declared the subsidy on fertilizers to enable farmers to purchase it at concessional rates. Marginal farmers are dependent on good seeds and fertilizers for good harvest. Fertilizer units of the state in the conspiracy with state officials showed production of fertilizers beyond their known capacity and collected undue subsidy from the Central government. However, the farmers had to buy the fertilizer by paying even up to Rs 100 more for each bag, he said. Thus while poor farmers suffered her government and Fertilizer units made huge profits at the cost of farmers, he further said. Highlighting that Mayawati is following anti-farmer policy, Rahul Gandhi asked the people to vote for his party this time and promised that Congress (I) would provide corruption-free, pro-poor and pro-farmer government.
