Rahul Gandhi put in maximum efforts in UP: Sonia Gandhi

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) discussed the outcome of the recently held assembly elections in the five states during a meeting in New Delhi and also discussed about the future course of action. Congress President Sonia Gandhi after the meeting told the media that every election is a lesson for Congress and she accepts the poll results.
Responding to a question as to whether Rahul Gandhi was given wrong advise on UP, Sonia Gandhi said, “No.”  Queried whether there was lack of leadership, she responded, "I would say rather than lack of leadership, there are too many leaders... That is our problem."
“Every election is a lesson for us whether we win or lose; every election has a lesson for us,” said the Congress President.
About the future plans to strengthen the Congress party Sonia Gandhi said “This is a matter which I will have to discuss with my colleagues. We will have to sit down and look at the situation and the results in every single state and should collectively take a decision to correct the mistakes we made.”
When asked whether the price hike is one of the reasons for Congress defeat, Sonia Gandhi said “We will have to analyse the entire situation after talking with our people in every state. Price hike could be one of the reasons for the defeat”.
The Congress President underlined that that the assembly poll results will not damage the Congress-led UPA Government. Sonia Gandhi added that Rahul Gandhi had put in his maximum efforts in Uttar Pradesh where he was leading the Congress campaign.
When asked about the problems between UPA and its alliances Sonia Gandhi responded “I think we should continuously and regularly keep in touch with the coalition partners as well as the opposition parties. I have every hope that on issues which are beneficial to the people of this country, they will understand and they will support”.
“We are going to have elections in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. We will have to pull our socks up and get going” said Sonia Gandhi. She also denied reports that that Rahul Gandhi may take over as the Prime Minister.
She stressed that only Congress had taken strict measures to handle corruption. “Only the Congress acted seriously to tackle corruption.  We had brought the strong Lokpal Bill and Lok Sabha passed it. Who had stalled it in the Rajya Sabha?” Sonia Gandhi asked.
