Progressive mass leader Rahul Gandhi

The Congress can feel happy that they have a new progressive mass leader in Rahul Gandhi who instead of being intoxicated by the power and never hungry for any media hype, has the capability and interest to understand the people and realizing their pain. As he always says that the leaders should go to the people, stay with them, share their meals and drink the polluted water from their well and get sick to realize the pain of the poor. Rahul Gandhi, on many occasions, set an example by doing what he has been saying. He took many political leaders by surprise with his unscheduled sudden visits to villages, interacting with the locals and even staying at their huts. He also made it a practice to visit the places where people are suffering.
That is what we experienced when he visited Forbesganj in Bihar and Mawal in Maharashtra where people died of police firing. When Kalka mail accident took place he immediately visited the hospital to meet the accident victims. He had visited Bharatpur in Rajasthan where ten people from Muslim community were killed in the clash with the police. All these interventions helped to bring confidence among the people and gave them a hope that there is someone who stands with them and helps them in crisis.
The important thing is that Rahul Gandhi ensured that he delivers too, though many such actions did not get necessary attention it deserves. He visited Bhatta-Parsaul and other villages in Uttar Pradesh when the lands of poor farmers were wrongly acquired by the Mayawati Government. There were reports that many people including women were assaulted by the police. Rahul Gandhi immediately visited there to realize the seriousness of the issues and to mitigate their problems took the initiative to draft a new Land Acquisition Bill by the cabinet When he noticed that the death toll increases in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh because of Encephalitis, he immediately intervened and a team led by the Union Health Minister was sent to take stock of the situation.
Further, he visited drought-hit Bundelkhand region to ascertain himself the gravity of the situation and made sure that a Rs. 3000 cr relief package for Bundelkhand is sanctioned by the Centre. When he understood that the weavers in Banaras have been facing acute difficulties, he properly took initiative to release a Rs. 6000 cr package to the Bunkars. He too played a role to force the Central Government to take a decision that not only ministers but their siblings and relatives also shall have to disclose their assets. As per the information gathered through RTI, in a total of seventeen letters he sent to the Prime Minister, he had addressed this issue and also several others including the relief and reconstruction efforts undertaken by the Government in flood-ravaged Leh, the problems of Sri Lankan Tamils and Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu and safety of Indian fishermen who face attacks from Sri Lankan Navy.
Rahul Gandhi has been making his views public in his addresses and interactions. Rahul Gandhi rightly asserts that India can achieve much through its young blood. He also has been insisting that unless democracy reaches the grass root level, country cannot progress. His father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi took India to the top list of the global Nations with his modern vision and now his son follows his legendary father’s footsteps to see the country scaling new heights. If the youth of the country starts thinking in this direction we can definitely have a corruption-free, violence-less, modern and developed Nation.
