Assert your rights, Rahul Gandhi tells the Congress workers in HP

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi called for unity in the state unit of Congress in Himachal Pradesh. The Congress leader snubbed the party’s top leadership in state saying the party lost the last Assembly election in Himachal Pradesh due to infighting and if the leaders didn’t mend their ways, they’ll continue to sit in the Opposition in the future too.
While asking the workers to close ranks and put up a united show at the hustings, Rahul Gandhi took on the top leaders of the state telling them that the recommendations of block and district committees would be given weightage while allocating tickets.
“It is absolutely unacceptable that four or five leaders of the party rule the roost while the rest, including the district and block committee leaders, only discharge their responsibilities without realizing their fundamental rights. “You  must assert your rights,” Rahul told Congress workers during separate closed door meetings in Kullu.
Stating that only a native of the area should be given ticket, Rahul Gandhi said, “Paratroopers will not be accommodated.”
The tickets would be allocated in advance to enable candidates to have adequate time for campaigning, the Congress MP from Amethi said and added that sycophancy or lobbying won’t get the leaders tickets.
Though top leaders including Union Minister Anand Sharma, former CM Virbhadra Singh, PCC president Kaul Singh Thakur, CLP leader Vidya Stokes among others were present during the eetings, Rahul Gandhi was more keen on interacting with party cadres.
